January 2023


LinkedIn has rolled out a new focused inbox, which it says will help users find and respond to important messages.

Focused Inbox uses AI to identify important messages, which it filters into the ‘Focused’ tab while the remainder are sent to the ‘Other’ tab.


YouTube is giving creators new tools to work with when publishing community posts, with the addition of photo editing features and interactive quizzes.

Community posts are social media-style updates available to YouTube channels with 500 subscribers or more.


In a recent internal meeting, Twitter CEO Elon Musk revealed six ways he plans to turn Twitter into an “everything app,” which includes long-form tweets, encrypted DMs, user-to-user payments, and more.


 Out of eight algorithm updates in 2022, six of them were focused on spam, product reviews and demoting unhelpful content.

Make sure your content is not considered spammy.

After the recent $44,000,000,000 (that’s 44 billion!) acquisition of Twitter by Elon Musk things seem to be in some disarray.

With large numbers of advertisers and users leaving what is happening, and what does the future hold for the platform?


Some great new features announced at Google’s Search On virtual conference in September are finally being rolled out.

Search your surroundings with your phone’s camera and find out whether a business is open, how busy it is, the price range, its star rating, and more…

Canva has added text to image generation.

Now you can simply type in your idea and Canva will create an image based on your description.

According to the latest research Virtual assistants can reduce businesses operating costs by 78%.

It has also been found that people that are working remotely are 13% more productive.


Overall, WordPress is the CMS of choice for 43% of all websites (64.3% of websites that use a CMS)

33.1% of websites don’t use a CMS at all.

Shopify is the second-most preferred CMS solution and was used by 6.2% of websites with a CMS (4.2% of all websites) in July.


In a series of updates to Instagram advertising, the app is surfacing ads in more places, such as public profiles and the Explore tab.

Additional updates include augmented reality (AR) ads and multi-advertisers ads.

Lastly, Instagram is giving advertisers a selection of free-use music to utilize with Reels ads.

Meta has soft-launched a new Community Chats feature for Messenger and Facebook Groups on September 14, 2022. The new feature lets users create new real-time chat, voice, and video channels directly from the Messenger app.


Directors need to apply for their director identification number (director ID) by 30 November 2022.

WeAre8 describes itself as ‘The People’s Platform’. In simple terms, it is a social media app where users are paid to watch ads. They can choose to forward payments on to charity or get paid themselves. Either way, the brands advertising on the app also donate a percentage of their ad spend to charity.

Google has started (as of August 25th) to roll out its next algorithm update for search.
It will look at a website and when it comes to its search results prioritise sites that it feels are written as ‘people first’.
Will your website be affected?


Facebook is splitting its home feed into two tabs, and these updates to Facebook’s home feed have the potential to improve your content reach and get your brand in front of new audiences.

This update adds to the Facebook experience by serving additional content users wouldn’t ordinarily see.

As a result of the increase in content suggestions, people and pages may have an easier time building an audience on Facebook.


YouTube has enhanced its status as a popular destination for discovering and listening to podcasts.

When it comes to engaging and converting B2B buyers, video is an essential tool in your marketing arsenal.

Fully 95% of B2B buyers say video plays an important role in their moving forward with a purchase, according to new survey results from Brightcove and Ascend2.

Researchers polled over 300 B2B decision-makers in organizations generating more than $50 million in revenue across North America and the United Kingdom.

By September, Google Chrome is expected to release an HTTPS-only mode on its browser.

No SSL? – Visitors will automatically be redirected to a warning message. This will significantly impact traffic to any website that does not have an SSL certificate installed.


Google Analytics is the go-to tool for measuring your site performance.

But it is shifting to a new version, and some action is needed to get this new version working.

As soon as you swap it will start collecting data. This data will be retained when the switch happens. It will NOT keep any data from the current analytics, so it is important to switch sooner rather than later.


Creator studio has been updated so that it is now possible to schedule Facebook reels there.

Facebook has also added the ability to take clips of your existing videos in Creator Studio and share (or schedule!) as Stories and/or Reels.


In a Facebook group, you can type in ‘@everyone’ and it will literally tag everyone inside your group and send them a notification that they have been tagged in a post!

This could be a game changer for any ‘Going live in 5 minutes’ type posts or any notifications you need to send out.
